Class 4 - Summer 2025 - Invasion!
Dragon Eyes
As part of our art curriculum, the children participated in a creative project centred around the theme of dragons, linked to our theme, Invasion! and How to Train Your Dragon. They began by using pastels and watercolours to design dragon eyes, exploring colour blending and various techniques.
Following this, they sculpted their dragon eyes from clay, applying essential clay-working skills such as shaping and texturing. This project fostered their creativity and dexterity, resulting in finished pieces that they proudly displayed.
World Ocean Day
As part of World Ocean Day, our school community united to highlight the essential role of our oceans and how we can protect them. The children engaged in discussions about the effects of plastic pollution on marine life and explored ways to help, such as recycling and reusing materials.
Using single-use plastics they brought in, the children created impressive pieces of art. The day concluded with an enthusiastic run around the school field, where students were encouraged to wear various shades of blue. Through their efforts, they raised funds for The Marine Conservation Society, embodying the spirit of the day by symbolically traversing the depths of the world's oceans.
Weaving
As part of our theme, "Invasion," the children delved into the historical significance of transforming sheep's wool into yarn. This engaging experience provided them with an opportunity to grasp the foundational techniques of textile creation that date back to the Anglo-Saxon and Viking eras. Using straws, the children effectively illustrated the intricate process of weaving the weft over and under the warp. Each of the children, demonstrated remarkable skill and perseverance, creating of a delightful bookmark that exhibited their newfound abilities.
Y4 Viking Residential
Year 4 had a fantastic opportunity to participate in an overnight residential at the Ancient Technology Centre in Dorset this week. The experience allowed them to engage meaningfully with history, living like Vikings for an entire 24 hours.
They demonstrated huge levels of enthusiasm, positive attitudes and wonder as historians, enriching their understanding of the Viking era and developing a greater appreciation for collaborative learning.
