Class 2 - Summer 2025 - Island Life
Year 2 - Making Music
Children in Year 2 have had a fantastic time exploring their creativity through music using Purple Mash! They’ve really enjoyed making their own pieces of music, experimenting with different sounds and instruments. As part of their learning, they thought carefully about how different types of music can make us feel, and used this to create tunes that reflect their own emotions. Whether it was a happy, calm, or exciting piece, each child showed great imagination and thoughtfulness in expressing their feelings through sound.
Year 2 have had an exciting and busy start to the term! As budding scientists, we explored the school grounds to investigate the different types of plants growing around us. Some were familiar, while others required us to carry out our own research to find out more! Last week was particularly action-packed, with Orienteering on Wednesday and VE Day celebrations on Thursday. During our trip to Stratford Park, the children had a brilliant time tracking down all the Julia Donaldson characters, using their maps confidently and working together to find each post—both teams found them all! On Thursday, we learned about the importance of VE Day and why it is celebrated. We marked the occasion by designing our own colourful bookmarks and bunting, proudly celebrating the end of the war.
Welcome to our Year 2 Summer Term blog!
We are so excited to dive into the Summer term in Year 2 with our new and exciting theme: Island Life! This term, we’ll be exploring the United Kingdom and learning all about the four countries that make it up. As young geographers and scientists, we’ll investigate the different physical features of these countries and discover how plants grow and change with the seasons. It’s going to be a fun-filled term full of hands-on learning, discovery and adventure.
Here is the theme overview to show the learning we will cover in our theme:
