On Friday 15th January, we were incredibly lucky to have Mr Jones run an African drumming workshop for us! We learnt how to play a variety of traditional African rhythms on djembe drums, shakers and metal agogos.
We said the phrases, ‘Walk the donkey’ and ‘Have you got a dog?’ to help us remember how to play the complicated rhythm patterns.
We also learned how to follow a conductor so that we could play dynamics (loud and soft) – some of us had a go at being a conductor!
It was a very inspirational sessions and gave us ideas for composing our own drumming rhythms when back in class.
